Miracles During the Journey to Jerusalem

In 33 AD, Jesus, on His way to Jerusalem, performed many miracles, revealing His glory and compassion for the hurting and afflicted. Every miracle is a testimony to His capacity to transform lives and foster belief.

21. Healing Ten Lepers (Luke 17:11-19): One of the most poignant accounts is the healing of the ten lepers, as recounted in Luke 17:11-19. While traveling along the border of Samaria and Galilee, Jesus meets these marginalized individuals who seek His compassion. Touched by their suffering, He directs them to present themselves to the priests. As they make their way, a fantastic transformation occurs, and they are all healed of their leprosy. However, among those healed, only one leper—a Samaritan—returns to thank Jesus for this remarkable gift. 23. Multiplying Oil (2 Kings 4:1-7): The story in 2 Kings 4:1-7 tells us of a great miracle where oil is multiplied. While this story comes prior to Jesus’ ministry, it fits wonderfully with our themes of divine provision and miraculous intervention. A widow who is abandoned after the death of her husband faces a dire situation in which creditors are demanding to take her two sons as payment for her debts. In her time of distress, she turns to the prophet Elisha for assistance. He tells her to borrow as many empty vessels as she can from her neighbors and to pour oil from her one remaining flask into these vessels. When she discovers that the oil pours forth generously and fills every container she brings, her heart fills with joy! In addition to demonstrating the power of faith and obedience, this miracle also serves as a powerful illustration of how God can provide abundantly in our time of need, teaching us that hope and trust can yield miracles.

24. Healing a Blind and Mute Man (Matthew 9:32-33): As seen in Matthew 9:32-33, a man who was blind and unable to talk was deeply healed. This poor guy, possessed by a demon that made him unable to speak, is brought to Jesus by his loved ones. Jesus casts out the demon with a forceful yet gentle gesture, and the man returns his sight and the power of effective speech. The crowd's response is one of awe as they see up close the authority that Jesus has over both physical sickness and spiritual sickness. This miracle stands as a testimony to His power and an invitation to those who would stand on the sidelines to consider the ways their hearts and lives might be healed and restored. The astonishment and hope combined are a testament to the life-changing power of faith to action.

22. Healing Blind Bartimaeus: Bartimaeus is begging along the roadside when he hears that Jesus is on his way. Full of hope, he starts calling for help despite those around him trying to silence his cries. Not deterred, he continues shouting until Jesus stops to pay attention. How utterly ordinary and unassuming the next moment is: Jesus calls Bartimaeus forward and, in three short questions and answers, fully restores his sight. This powerful story demonstrates the incredible impact that faith and perseverance can have in our lives, showing us that sometimes we simply need to cling to hope and courageously ask for help, despite the challenges facing us. Bartimaeus' refusal seems like a great lesson for us as a message of faith.
